Ergon Energy covers regional Queensland outside the south-east corner, including all of these councils. Gympie sits right at Energex's own stated northern boundary — multiple sources describe Energex's territory as running "from the NSW border north to Gympie," which suggests Gympie itself, or at least its southern parts, may fall under Energex rather than Ergon, despite being grouped with regional councils for local government purposes. Toowoomba is a genuine split: Energex's own service area explicitly lists Toowoomba as a key area (the urban centre sits near "the foothills of the Great Dividing Range," Energex's stated western boundary), while other sources describe Ergon as covering "Toowoomba (some outer areas)" — meaning the wider Toowoomba Regional Council LGA likely has both networks present within it, unlike the cleaner single-distributor pattern that applies to the rest of regional Queensland.
