My Council in One Place
Enter your postcode to see your climate zone, region and the council rules for livestock, land and water, power and wastewater, and selling, all in one panel, and pick your council to jump to its section of each rule page.
Before you build a chicken coop, install a rainwater tank, add a solar system or sell a jar of jam, the answer to “am I allowed?” sits with your council and your state, and it is spread across a lot of pages. This tool pulls the lot into one panel: type a postcode and it shows your climate zone, your named region with its long-term rainfall and frost figures, and the four rule sets that apply where you live. Pick your council and it opens that council’s section of each page and shows the first lines of what we found.
Find My Council Rules
Postcodes do not follow council boundaries, so the council is your choice rather than a guess. Entering a postcode also sets your climate zone site-wide, the same way Find My Climate Zone does. Nothing you type leaves your device.

How It Works
Your postcode gives a state, one of six broad climate zones and one of 46 named regions, using the same lookup as Find My Climate Zone. The state decides which rule pages apply. Some states have a metro page and a regional page for the same topic, and the panel shows both so you can use the one that covers your area. When you choose a council, the tool opens that council’s section on each page that has one and reads out the first paragraph so you can see the headline rule before you click through.
Not every topic is organised council by council. Power and wastewater rules usually depend on the electricity distributor and the state plumbing regime, and selling rules often group councils by type. Where a page has no section for your council, the panel links to the page and tells you how it is organised.
What This Can’t Tell You
It cannot tell you your exact council, overlays or zoning, which are set at the address level. Flood and bushfire overlays, heritage controls and zone-specific limits can change an answer completely, so treat the panel as the place to start and your council’s planning enquiry line as the place to finish. The pages it links to carry dated sources and say when the rules were last checked.
