This Month on My Homestead

Pick a month and your climate zone to see what to sow, what is ready to harvest and what to preserve, with your bookmarked crops first, then add the whole year to your calendar.

The best time to do a job in the garden is usually this month, but which jobs? This page turns the grow guides into a short list for the month you pick: what to sow or plant, what is ready to harvest, and which gluts are worth preserving. If you have bookmarked grow guides in your Notebook, those crops come first and are shown in bold. Everything is worked out in your browser, so your bookmarks and your zone never leave your device.

Your climate zone is picked up automatically if you have set it, and you can change it here. The calendar is seasonal and general: treat it as a starting point and check the grow guide for your variety and your local frost dates.

How the List Is Worked Out

Each grow guide records the seasons for sowing or planting and for harvest. This page maps the month you pick to a season, then lists the guides whose windows include it. Zones shift the timing: subtropical and tropical windows open about a month earlier, cool temperate windows about a month later, and the others follow the general calendar. Crops that most people grow come first, and any crop you have bookmarked jumps to the top.

For the full lists, the Planting Calendar shows every guide for a month and the Harvest Calendar shows what is ready. When something is ready all at once, the Glut Rescue Planner shows what to do with it.

Putting It in Your Calendar

The whole-year button creates twelve all-day reminders, one for each of the next twelve months, dated the first of the month, with that month’s sowing and harvest list, tuned to your zone and your bookmarked crops. Import the file once into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook and the reminders appear for the year. Bookmark more crops later and download again for an updated list. The calendar file is created on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it know which crops to show first?

It reads the grow guides you have bookmarked in your Notebook, in your own browser, and lists those first. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Is the timing exact for my area?

No. It uses the seasonal sowing and harvest windows from the grow guides, shifted a month for subtropical and cool temperate zones. Treat it as a starting point and check your local frost dates.

How do I add it to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar?

Use the add to calendar buttons to download an .ics file, then open or import it in your calendar app. It adds all-day reminders on the first of each month.

Does the calendar update by itself?

No. The file is a one-off snapshot. Bookmark more crops or change your zone, then download it again for an updated list.

What if I have not set my climate zone?

The page shows the general calendar. Use Find My Climate Zone or the zone picker in the menu to tune the timing to your area.
